| Title: Development of Female Education in India-An Historical
Perspective: Author: D.
Pulla Rao
|
| Abstract: After
independence the Government of India established the number of educational
institutions in the country. Several strategies were adopted to promote
education of girls in independent India. The enrollment of females has
considerably improved at all levels of education in favour of females
during the period of the study. It is evident that the enrollment of
girls/women has increased at a faster rate than that of boys/men in
primary, upper primary, secondary/higher secondary and also in higher
education stage. In the field of higher education also the share of
females’ enrollment in to various faculties has increased very
substantially. Yet, in spite of all these favourable policies and
programmes for women, women could not get their due share in education.
The enrollment of females in education must be raised at least to cover
their share in the total population, which is around 50 per
cent. Unless some more new strategies are evolved, the
women in India will not get their due share and hence the management of
gender diversity will become a major issue for future India. |
